For a lot of students, nightlife is a key factor when choosing where to go to university. Luckily for students in Sheffield, the city is full of it. With such a huge range of pubs, bars, and clubs, you might struggle to find the best places to go to – and the places where you won’t blow half of your loan in one night.
Still, if you keep an eye out for deals and offers, you can easily find somewhere great without breaking the bank.
Forum Kitchen + Bar boasts a wide menu including breakfast, brunch, and dinner – as well as a huge selection of beers, spirits, and cocktails. Their Forum Card gives members access to exclusive savings on food and drinks, at a one-off cost of £3.
Offers include two of the same cocktails for £9, a £10 saving on a bottle of prosecco on ‘Fizz Fridays’, and 50% off whole pizzas on Tuesday. The Forum card also doubles as a True North reward card. This means you can collect points at any of their venues, and get back 5% of what you spend to use again. Plus, you get more offers throughout the year, and a gift on your birthday!
Happy hour at Picture House Social is 5-7pm on Monday to Thursday. Get a house lager, cider, or wine for just £2.50, or two cocktails for the price of one. Plus, you can a free side if you buy two pizzas – and you could have a free game of table tennis! Go between 12-4pm on Saturday or Sunday for a brunch of pizza and cicchetti, and you get selected bottomless drinks. It’s £20 per head, but if you take a group of five friends, a sixth can get in for free (or for £16.60 each).
The Devonshire Cat has built a pretty solid reputation for craft and cask beers – but they also have a host of great offers especially for students. Grab your NUS card and head down for £2 off all cocktails and double house spirits for the price of singles. Jagerbombs are just £1.50, and moonshine or a cask of the day is just £2.60. You can also get 20% off food on top! It’s definitely worth a visit for a more relaxed drink with a few friends.
The Doctor’s Orders is a must-visit if you’re a fan of ales. It’s a taproom for the Little Critters Brewing Company – an independent microbrewery. Their prices start at just £2.70 for an ale and £2.80 for a pint on draught. Plus, a double measure house vodka with a mixer will only set you back £3.50. The pub is conveniently located on the corner of the student union – an ideal place to wind down after a day of lectures.
Wednesday night is student night at Soyo and it comes with a whole host of drink deals – plus free entry. Drinks start at just £1.50, with 2-4-1 offers on cocktails, and double measure spirits and mixer for £3. Soyo has drinks offers on nights throughout the week, like £2.50 drinks all night on Tuesday and Thursday.
Like the name would have you believe, West Street Live is a great place to go for live music. It’s open until 4am every night of the week, and there’s someone playing most nights. But, it’s the value for money that Sheffield students love – entry is free, and drinks are notoriously cheap. Famed offers include £5 bottles of wine, 50p shots, and £5 rounds.
