But, if you’ve just come out of your last student class of the day, or you want a nice evening with a few friends – and you’re looking for a bar in Nottingham. Whether it’s to watch a match with your mates, have a couple of cocktails with the girls, or just for a quick drink before going somewhere else, there are plenty of places to choose from. Here are just a few of our favourites.
Music fans won’t want to miss out on a trip to Rescue Rooms! A relaxed bar serving food and drinks – with daily offers in Happy hour, and famed live music events. ‘Pressure’ Tuesdays and ‘Stealth v Rescued’ Saturdays are great club nights for students. Both have themed rooms with different music styles, deals on drinks (including 2-4-1), and even a Caribbean BBQ. An acoustic student night, karaoke, and a pub quiz are hosted each week too.
The Southbank Bar is a good choice for sports fans. Games are regularly shown on the big screens, and live music, and Q+A events are often hosted. The bar opens at 11 for breakfast, and serves a huge selection of beers, cask ales, and cocktails ‘til late. The best part? Student get 40% off all food with a valid student ID card!
It may not be the most typical student venue, but Pitcher & Piano is a bar with an extensive menu, a quirky interior, and a relaxed vibe. Food and drink are served all day – you’ll find something here whether you’re grabbing a bit of breakfast or relaxing with friends over a glass of wine. Selected beers and cocktails are on offer between 5-8pm on weekdays, and there’s often live music events on Sundays.
Pepper Rocks is a tropical cocktail bar with a relaxed vibe and eclectic music. The bar spans across three floors and an outdoor area, with music events hosted throughout the week. Monday is bring-your-own-vinyl night – so expect the unexpected. Open mic and DJ sets can be heard on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays – complete with happy hour deals until 10pm, hotdogs, and popcorn.
It’s Oktoberfest every day at Bierkeller! Notorious for steins of beer and Bavarian-style food, Bierkeller is a great option for a lively night without stepping into a club. Drink deals are on offer at events ‘Kellerbomb’ Wednesday and ‘Disco Inferno’ Thursday every week. But Friday and Saturdays are possibly the best – dancing on benches to a live Oompah band is the norm. There are even karaoke and quiz nights, and live coverage of sporting events throughout the week.
Tilt is a rustic style bar specialising in a range of original cocktails and selection of well-loved classics. The relaxed vibe is perfect for winding down with friends over a drink or two. And if you go during happy hour (5-7pm on Tuesday-Friday), selected cocktails are down to just £4. Tilt also offers a cocktail masterclass for £20 per person – a great way to celebrate the end of your student exams with a group of friends!
Be At One is a lively cocktail bar complete with party music and neon lights. For instance it’s open nearly every night of the week – you’ll have to go somewhere else on Tuesday – with drinks deals on offer all night on Sunday. Plus, if you download their app, you can choose your own happy hour and get great deals whenever you want!
400 Rabbits is a Mexican style tequila and mezcal bar, therefore with an extensive menu of cocktails. There’s a live DJ throughout the week, and a selection of games around the bar. So, don’t miss out on the fun carnival vibe – but, it’s even better during happy hour: cocktails are just £5 between 5-8pm every day.
The Hockley Arts Club describes itself as a ‘creative space for social eating and drinking’. Spread across three themed floors, the Hockley Arts Club serves a range of house cocktails, select beers, and premium wines and spirits. But, this probably isn’t the place to go before heading to a club, but it’s a great venue if you’re looking for somewhere a bit special.
